Shortly after our first sailing trip, Guido and Laja got in touch with Rudi, the sailing instructor with whom Philipp Walus had completed his license. We met up with him to discuss the possibilities. His colleague Wolfi would take care of organizing everything else with us.
Wolfi suggested that if we could put together a full group of ten people, the license could be planned very flexibly, with online classes and one sailing week in Croatia. This led to many phone calls to friends who had never sailed before, asking if they might be interested in getting a sailing license with us. To our surprise, we apparently have friends who are crazy enough to join us in almost anything. We ended up to be 12 friends, doing the license together.
In August, Philipp Walus found an incredible boat at a great price, which led to another beautiful trip—this time still with just one boat. It would be our last trip sailing with a single boat. We had perfect weather, an amazing boat, and even experienced an unforgettable thunderstorm in Dubrovnik while listening to Game of Thrones music. Lightning struck over the city as we sat eating pizza and watching the spectacle. Philipp seemed to have the boat under control… more or less. At one point, he pulled out a magazine about sailing during thunderstorms, which understandably raised a few suspicions among the crew.
During the trip, we also studied for our upcoming theoretical sailing exam—at least a little bit. Very little, actually.
